Why Use Online Picture Books

There are many picture books available. They can be found at libraries, book stores, schools, and homes. Because there are so many regular picture books available, a person may wonder why they should even considered using online picture books to teach their children instead of using regular picture books. There are actually several good reasons why a person should use online picture books to teach and this article discusses them.

An opportunity

Online picture books are special. Many of the online picture books, especially those found on http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ are picture books that cannot be found in schools, libraries, or book stores (even used book stores.) But just because these picture books cannot be found in the regular picture book places does not mean that children should not have the opportunity to read them.

Children can learn a lot from the old picture books that can be found online. The illustrations themselves can teach children about the past. They can learn that children used to dress differently than they do now, and that they used to participate in different activities. Online picture books can give children an opportunity to view different parts of the world that they are not able to experience for themselves.

Old books

Since the picture books found on http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ are in fact old, if a teacher or parent did have a copy of the book, chances are it would be kept protected from little hands and not read and used to teach. http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ allows the old picture books to be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Teachers and parents can use the online picture books to teach their children about the alphabet, animals, reading, and rhyming.

Already online

Kids spend a lot of their time online. Many times they are wasting their time on the internet not learning, just playing. While playing is good, reading is most often considered a better use of time. Since the children are already online, parents can encourage them to visit websites such as http://www.oldpicturebooks.com to look at and read the old picture books that are found there.

Children will have fun turning the pages with their mouse and hearing the page as it actually turns. Using online picture books can help get internet savvy kids become interested in books and reading.

Less expensive and green

Online picture books are a very inexpensive way to teach kids how to read. Instead of parents and teachers spending hundreds of dollars on beautiful books that may be treated poorly and get ruined as they are passed from one child to the next, they can go to online picture book websites such as http://www.oldpicturebooks.com and let their kids look at and read more than one very nice picture book.

Online picture books can be viewed by many kids at one time and this can save a school money. In a classroom they may only have a few copies of one picture book that needs to be shared by 25 plus children. So instead of having to purchase a copy of a picture book for each student in the classroom, they can go to the computer lab and read the picture books online.

Using online picture books to teach kids how to read, to teach them about rhyming, and many more things, can help the environment. If fewer picture books are printed since kids are able to read and learn from the picture books online then less paper is used to print these books.

Which Online Picture Books Are Good For Teaching?

Reading is a great way to open up different worlds and to learn about many things. Online picture books give parents and teachers a terrific opportunity to teach their children/students about many things. But with so many books available it can be hard to know which online picture books are good to use to teach children. This article talks about some of the great online picture books that are excellent choices for teaching kids.

To teach the alphabet

When a child is learning the alphabet, one of the best things for them to use to become familiar with the letters is a picture book. Most alphabet picture books have great illustrations that correspond with the letter which that particular page is teaching. This is a great tool to help children learn and remember the letters of the alphabet.

The online picture book website http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ has some terrific alphabet picture books that can help teach children the alphabet. An Alphabet of Old Friends and Royal Picture Alphabet are two great choices of online picture books for both teachers and parents to use to teach children the letters of the alphabet.

To teach reading

When a teacher or parent is choosing which online picture books to use to help teach their students or children how to read, it should depend on the reading level of the particular child. If the student is a beginning reader, it is best to use online books that have a simple story, more illustrations on a page compared to words and the words should be in big print on the page.

As a child gets older and gets better at reading, they will be able to read online picture books that have more words on each page compared to the illustrations. In fact, some of the pages may not have any pictures on them at all and they may contain more complex stories.

The website, http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/, has several great books to choose from for beginning readers. Several of the online picture books found on this website, such as Amusing Alphabet and Hiawatha Alphabet are great books that have beautiful illustrations to help a beginning reader understand what is going on in the book.

This website also offers some great online picture books for a more advanced reader as well. The online picture books such as Cinderella and Goody Two-Shoes are two great choices for a reader interested in a more complex story but one that also has some great pictures too.

Learning about history

Online picture books can be a great tool for parents and teachers to teach their children and students about history. Many old picture books have illustrations and stories that, if drawn or written today, would be very different. By giving the children an opportunity to read these old online picture books, kids can see what life was like and perhaps even learn a little something about life when some of their ancestors were children.

On http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ there are several beautiful old picture books that children can read and also look at the pictures so they can learn more about the past. Books like Fun and Nonsense, Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp and Amusing Alphabet are very different from the children's picture books that are written and illustrated today and can provide children with a window to the past.

Using Online Picture Books To Teach Reading and Writing To Children

From games to keeping in touch with friend, the internet provides children with many different opportunities these days. One other great opportunity that the internet provides is the opportunity to view and read picture books online. This article talks about how online picture books may be used to teach children to read and write.

Teaching reading

Online picture books are a great resource for teachers and parents to help teach their children to read. Online picture books allow children to read books they may never get the chance to read. For example, http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ has beautiful picture books that tell stories and showcase illustrations that are not found in today's children's bookstores.

Also on the website, http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/, there are online alphabet books. These online alphabet books can be a child's first introduction to the letters of the alphabet and how these letters form words. Some of the books have short rhyming stories that go along with the letter of the alphabet. This can be a fun way for children to remember certain letters.

Online picture books are a great way to teach children to read because they are mostly pictures with fewer words. Children are able to tell what is going on in a story by the pictures and this can help them to match up what the words are on the page and help them to learn how to read. Also, because online picture books have fewer words and more pictures, it can be much less intimidating for children learning how to read.

Many of the online picture books found on http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ have rhyming which can help children to remember words and stories that they are taught.

Why use online picture books to teach writing?

Most kids need some type of writing example to help the learn how to write and to learn to make their writing better. Online picture books offer a teacher or parent a great resource to help their students or children learn how to write.

Online picture books are great models of good writing. The author has to be concise and make their point quickly while still writing a great story. Children are able to read the online picture books and see how different writing techniques are used. After seeing a writing example they are able to then think about how they can apply what they have read and learned to their writing.

How to teach writing using online picture books

When a teacher or parent is using an online picture book to teach their students or children about writing, they should encourage the children to identify the characters of the story and their development throughout the story. And they should also be urged to pay attention to how the author uses words to tell the story. This may require the children to read the story more than once.

After the children have studies the online picture book, they should then have an opportunity to write. It can be helpful if they are allowed to write and even illustrate their own picture book.

Online picture books can help teachers and parents teach children about vocabulary, phonics, fluency, comprehension and phonemic awareness. Children can also be introduced to different ideas as well as different time periods when they read the online picture books that are found on http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/. Learning about all of these things can help a child become a better read and a better writer.

Using Online Picture Books To Teach A Variety Of Things

For hundreds of years picture books have been used to teach children, and adults, many things about the world. In today's modern society, online picture books can be used to teach the same things that paper picture books have in the past. This article discusses the many things that online picture books can teach people.

The alphabet

Even before entering kindergarten, one of the very first things many children learn from picture books is the alphabet. They are able to see the words on a page and realize they are made up of letters. There are also many picture books that specifically teach children about the letters of the alphabet.

Online picture books can teach children about the letters of the alphabet just like regular picture books can. There is a great website, http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/, which has some wonderful old picture books that can help teach children about the alphabet. The online picture books contained on this site teach more than just the letters of the alphabet. For example, The Royal Picture Alphabet also teaches some fun life lessons that go along with each letter of the alphabet.

Rhyming

Mother Goose and her nursery rhymes are a great way for children to learn about rhyming. On http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ there are several picture books which contain Mother Goose's rhymes. These books are beautifully illustrated as well. Kids can use these picture books to learn how words sound and how they can use words to learn how to write their own poems.

Reading

Of course one of the best things that online picture books can do is be an aid when teaching children how to read. These days, children are always online so introducing a child to reading picture books online can be a great way to get and keep them interested in reading. Using the website, http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ to learn to read from the picture books, allows children to turn the pages with a click of the mouse. They can hear the page turn as well, which makes reading online picture books even more fun.

Animals

Using online pictures books can teach children about animals. The online picture books found on http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ show many different types of animals. Some of the stories are even specifically about animals. Children can learn the names of different animals that they may not see every day. They can also learn the sounds that different animals make.

History

The online picture books that are found on http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ have illustrations, and even some stories, that cannot be found in modern picture books. If it was not for these online picture books, children may never have the opportunity to learn about these stories and see the beautiful illustrations that possibly portray how some of their ancestors lived and dressed.

Writing

Reading online picture books can help children learn how to write. They are able to see different styles of writing, from poems to short and concise stories. This can help them to learn how to use their words to create their own stories and poems.

Imagination

The online picture books found on the website http://www.oldpicturebooks.com/ can teach children how to use their imagination. Many children spend their time on the computer playing video games and chatting with friends. Reading good stories from online picture books, that can help a child see life in a different way, or imagine themselves in a different world or time period, can be a much better way for them to spend their time.
